My all-time favorite movie is Titanic, directed by James Cameron. As cliché as that is, it has been my favorite since I was a child. However, there are parts that anger me. Most people would agree that the scene in the water is most infuriating in the entire movie. Why didn’t Rose share the grand clock raft with Jack? He could have survived, and they could have had a chance at a happy ending. Although this is one of most enraging scenes in cinematic history, I think the moment I realized that Rose infuriated me to no end was when she held herself over the back of the ship. Rose felt trapped and decided that she wanted to throw herself overboard. However, to me this was just a bratty action to do. Rose was upset that she had to live in this privileged life and was forced to marry a rich man to help her family. She did not get what she expected in life so she thought making a dramatic, bratty action would help her get the attention she desired. I understand being stuck in a situation where you feel like you cannot get out, but she’s a smart girl. She could just leave home one day and never look back. WHICH, ironically, is what she did in the end. It only took Jack’s life to finally have the balls to do it.
The only reason this is my favorite movie is because of the historical context. A lot of the Titanic's history is not common knowledge, unless researched about. My favorite scene is towards the end of the movie due to the fact it made me feel an intense emotion of grief and extreme pride. Viewers can see workers attempting to keep the electricity on even as a quarter of the ship is in the water. These workers sacrificed their lives to help maintain order and reassurance for the ship’s passengers. Instead of leaving and attempting to save their own lives, they worked until the end. I have this movie memorized and this scene continues to make me cry. It motivates me to be compassionate and willing to put others before myself. It is important to care about the lives of others because it shows your real character (Cough, Cough, Rose).
